Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Ruairí C — 16 Jan 2014
The penultimate moment sees Kelly Reilly look at herself bloodied, covered in dirt, in the reflection of glass and realises what she has to do to fight back. Eden Lake is stark, bold and incredibly brutal, as a young couple are tormented by a bunch of seriously twisted evil youths.
It's intelligent and not just mindless bloody entertainment, Eden Lake never glorifies violence but still shows it in visceral ways, to show just how horrid these kids really are and the power of aggression.
The suspense is enough to keep you're heart pumping at an alarming rate, and it's amplified by the look of terror or Reilly's face. We Brit's make some truly terrific thrillers, and this is one of the best I've ever seen, and the ending is so cold and shocking it will make you feel sick, as if justice is thrown out the window.
This film will stay with you long after, harrowing and truly scary.
