Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Mike S — 10 Nov 2010
Essentially "The Descent" with hoodies, "Eden Lake" manages to wrangle more emotions than just fear with an enemy that we can see outside our own windows. With hoodlums as the main antagonists, we're angered by the society and circumstances that breed such monsters and disturbed by the evils they're capable of.
Despite this, we can't help but feel for them even in this, the most extreme depiction of society's young gone wrong. Anchored by strong performances, "Eden Lake" takes survival-horror to an interesting new level by making the audience question how much hatred and disdain we can level against our own.
