Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Bob V — 13 Jan 2011
Tim Burton's homage to director Ed Wood aka "The Worst Director Ever". I say homage, as this cannot be considered a biography, with many of the facts being left out, distorted or completely fabricated (Bela Lugosi actually had a wife & son, Dorothy was not the intolerant shrew she is made out to be, and none of Wood's movies ever had a première, let alone a gala one; to name a few).
But the over all vibe is more important here, and Burton does an excellent job at honouring a man who would let nothing stop him to realize his vision, his dreams, and that in itself is admirable. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the stuff I saw of him, at all, but I want to like the man for his optimism and the way he never quit, no matter how often and hard he ran into walls.
So while his career was not necessarily worthy of being honoured, let's say his spirit and legacy was.
Also, Burton gets half a star gratis for getting Sarah Jessica Parker to utter the line "Does my face really look like a horse?" I nearly pissed myself laughing. Ahum.
