Following the struggling career of a talentless want-to-be Hollywood director, Ed Wood is both funny and creatively inspiring. We see Johnny Depp's Ed Wood scrape together an amateur horror film production, hanging on little more than a prayer with his only 'advantage' being an aging, washed-out Bela Lugosi.
What makes the film so compelling is how determined our hero is in wanting to create something, despite lacking basic common sense, he wants nothing more than to show people worlds outside of this one. It is warming to the creative heart.
If only Tim Burton would return to these sorts of movies.
