Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Reed T — 11 Feb 2011
This is a definite must-see for anyone interested in film making. I think this film actually glorifies Ed Wood more than it actually criticizes him. Right off the bat, I could instantly relate to his character of an ambitious person who aspires to be a film maker.
His tragic flaw, however, is that he can't really get enough funding, and he has many unreasonable time frames. I think if someone really gave him the chance, a good budget, and a reasonable time frame, he could really make a good picture.
Now the acting is a strong point in this movie. Johnny Depp does a great job portraying Ed Wood, as an always positive, upbeat, can do guy who has big dreams, like his hero, Orson Welles. His portrayal really does glorify him.
Even though he didn't always make the greatest movies, he always tried his hardest, and wanted to entertain his audience. Martin Landau, who plays Bela Lugosi, did an outstanding job. It's almost like Bela Lugosi is there doing the part himself.
Great blend of drama, and humor, I would recommend you check it out if you have a passion for film.
