Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Richard C — 21 Oct 2012
A rare case of Tim Burton delivering a four-star film,. Ed Wood passes as a witty, fascinating and occasionally hilarious look into the life of the titular director's career as a so-called 'King of Flops'.
Depp is perfectly cast while Martin Landau deserved his Oscar victory for his throughly convincing portrayal of Bela Lugosi in what eventually ends as a playful and fine homage to the world of B-movie cinema.
It also bides as delivering a fascinating look into the world of directing films, and succeeds in seeing itself as Burton's equivalent to 8 1/2 in terms of the ways in exploring the notions of making films.
