Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Charles P — 29 Nov 2013
Perhaps Tim Burton's best film overall and his best collaboration with Johnny Depp who gives one of his best performances of his career. Considered The Worst Director of All-Time, Ed Wood was certainly a quirky, cross-dressing dreamer who wanted to make films, no matter how cheap and bad they turned out. Burton's reputation of directing off beat characters fits Ed Wood perfectly. Martin Landau is fantastic as Bela Lugosi and worthy of his Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Wood and Lugosi made the weirdest pair in Hollywood at that time and it is fitting the film is just as whacky. The black & white photography perfectly fits the time, place and its B-movie director.
Grade: A-.
