Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Alex H — 09 Feb 2014
Tim Burton's unknown masterpiece about the infamous director of disasters such as 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' and 'Glen Or Glenda?', Ed Wood. This movie is beautifully shot and deals with the subject matter in a way that does not parody the source material.
It is respectful to the life of Ed Wood and in parts is even touching especially in Martin Landau's portrayal of Bela Lugosi. The film has the classic Tim Burton feel about it and it allows him to present the old school studio run 'Hollywood that never was' as a reality.
Overall his direction is solid and puts us right in the shoes (or rather high heels) of Ed Wood and it truly feels like we're watching one of his movies - but invariably much better.
