"Ed Wood" is based on the true story of the famous, or infamous, Edward D. Wood Jr. He is an aspiring movie director whose movies are less than Hollywood material. In fact, most know Ed Wood as the worst movie director of all time.

The movie follows Wood funding and creating his most notoriously horrible cinematic bombs, most notably "Plan 9 From Outer Space." Although it was filmed in '94, "Ed Wood" is filmed in black-and-white.

This helps to add an old fashioned feeling to the movie to make it feel like you are actually watching a movie made by Ed Wood. The introduction to the movie is hillarious and amazing, making it one of the greatest movie introductions of all time.

What follows is a funny, sad, dramatic, and triumphant story of one man's journey to simply express himself. Johnny Depp gives a wonderful performance, argubly his greatest performance since "Edward Scissorhands.

" It's almost scary how spoot-on Depp recreates Ed Wood in every way, from Wood's strange obsessions with women's clothing to his overwhelming ambition to his great sense of humor and to his kindess and consederation to others.

Tim Burton does a remarkable job directing "Ed Wood." Although there are no monsters or bizarre creatures running around in this movie, it definitely feels like it is a Tim Burton movie (I mean this in the nicest way possible).

Ed Wood is, like most protaginists in Burton's movies, a social outcast who doesn't get along well with society. Also, I sense a little bit of Burton's life story in this movie. I don't mean that Burton was hated by people around him and dressed up in women's clothing, I mean that Burton always makes his movies exactly like he wants them to be made, just like Ed Wood.

Although sometimes they may not make perfect sense and sometimes they may be downright terrible, Burton puts his all into all of his projects and at the end of the way they look exactly like he imagined.

All in all, "Ed Wood" is a masterpiece that needs to be seen by anyone who aspires to be the best at what they want. If I've learned anything from this movie, it is to dream big and, no matter what, don't let anyone stop you from doing what you love!
