Review of Echelon Conspiracy (2009) by Lorinda R — 10 Aug 2009
This movie did close to no business in the box office in its huge 400 theater release. And by 'huge' I'm of course being sarcastic. It's a bit of a shame no one saw this, as the film is not too shabby.
We have seen the old sentient computer plot many times already, but the premise lends itself to mucho shenanigans, so why not make a few more. I'm not too sure about the main character though, something about him irked me. His expressions are too similar and twitchy to my liking. Maybe he should have stayed on ER. Oh shit, that series ended. Never mind then.
Ed Burns looks like he has never handled a gun every time he picks one up in this movie, which annoyed me to no end. Hasn't he been in many action movies already? I liked the little Bush nod at one point. Of course he would have wanted such a program like a motherfucker.
The action is so-so, but the plot itself is pretty over the top crazy. Well, with sentient computers they often are. I appreciated the many on-location scenes, but other than that, the film can't quite reach the 'very good' mark in my opinion. But I'll give it a very solid meh.
