Review of Eaten Alive (1976) by Scott S — 25 Jun 2009
Eaten Alive (1976) -- [4.0] -- After the sublime 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', Tobe Hooper chose this crap for his second film. There's no accounting for originality here. Neville Brand plays a condensed version of TCM's wacky family, only instead of a chainsaw he wields a scithe, and instead of eating people, he feeds them to his overgrown alligator.
There are too many characters and no forward thrust in the narrative. The sets are (perhaps intentionally) extremely fake, and much of the interior lighting is as flat as what you'd find in a porno.
So not only is it a boring movie, it's an ugly movie, too. Robert Englund plays the raunchy Buck character. Even though he has little screen time, he's probably the best part of the whole, uninspired affair.
