The strength of this film is the central story of a woman, Elizabeth, who has fallen out of love, not necessarily with her husband, but with the person she has become. Her journey to Italy, India and Indonesia are only exotic window dressing to the journey she takes within to find joy in her life and feeling in her heart.

I had fairly low expectations of Roberts, but thought her performance was quite raw as you often forgot you were watching a glamorous Hollywood actress. Davis, Crudup, Bardem and Franco were strong in supporting roles, but none was better than Jenkins in his turn as Elizabeth's fellow ashram worshiper who also must learn to find happiness within the man in the mirror.

The film probably doesn't do the book justice, but the message stayed true and Roberts captured the emotion of the complex character.
