Review of Eat Pray Love (2010) by Letia G — 30 May 2011
I very much wanted to like this movie and give it credit for "enlightening." Unfortunately, I just can't get past how privileged the main character. I am supposed to believe her life is difficult because she has a successful career, a husband who loves her, and a wonderful group of friends.
She isn't happy in her marriage because....well, I never really figured that part out. I guess he just didn't "get" her?! James Franco is an idiot and that relationship doesn't even make sense.
..maybe the real life inspiration was less douchy. I love her journey to Italy best because it was the most fun. In Bali and India I feel like she is fighting all of these feelings and seaching for healing but I'm not sure from what.
I just didn't connect with her pain on a real level because I live in the real world, not the socialite society of Manhattan. I gave this story three stars because of the goal of empowering women and the beautiful depiction of the exotic locals but I am being VERY generous!
