Review of Eat Pray Love (2010) by Lauren S — 01 Jun 2011
It took me many months to finally see this, and even at that, I had to do it under the duress of having to send back the DVD asap. I had hoped that I would get the feeling that I got watching Vicky Cristina Barcelona, but I never quite got there.
Even when questions were answered, more surfaced. How could she afford to travel for a year, especially after an expensive divorce? What was she displeased about in the first place? If she never really liked her husband in the first place, why did she marry him? Why did it seem like she could never really be happy with anyone or anything? How does a woman travel like that and never fall into danger? And most importantly, who in their right mind would ever refuse to go anywhere with Javier Bardem?! I am normally not a big Julia Roberts fan, but I was able to warm up to her some throughout the movie, though I never truly "got" her character.
I saw this movie for one reason-- Javier Bardem-- and despite the fact that I had to wait for 2/3 of the movie to be over to see him, it was worth it. And I was glad to see that he was the "one" for her, as much as it seemed that anyone ever could be, as she seemed almost unhappy being happy.
