Review of Eat Pray Love (2010) by Harry T — 14 Jun 2012
I really expected something wonderful when I made up my mind to see it. I haven't read the book but the movie was so hyped as this woman's odysee through three countries that'll let her achieve fulfillment that I jumped at it when the opportunity presented itself.
Yet it's more of a story about a bored woman who decides to travel three countries - she can afford it after all - and believes to be 'cured' now that she she has visited Italy, and been to spiritual places in India and Bali.
Julia is never a total failure but she can't save anything. Nor can the other great actors like Billy Crudup, Viola Davis, Javier Bardem, or James Franco. If I had to pick the best part of the movie, I'd say it was her stay in India, mainly because of the great performance by Richard Jenkins and my personal love for the country.
The movie undoubtedly shows some great scenery. I might have eaten when I watched it, and said some prayers it'd make the turn to a decent movie, yet, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't love it.
