Food! Sex! Beautiful women! Ok, ok... even though there is a ton of food porn and the actors are eye candy, I love this movie for other reasons. First of all, I love how the city of Taipei is a character within the rich fabric of the tale.
I love the simplicity of the daily interactions between the characters. yet the depth of emotion they have for each other. The title refers to an old saying about the two main desires in human nature: "to eat and drink and to have sex.
" Really, how can you argue with that?! Oh yes, this was one of the first movies I was able to watch in a US theater where I could actually understand the spoken dialogue without reading the subtitles.
.. so there is always a special place in my heart for this movie.
