Review of Eat Drink Man Woman (1994) by Irene M — 22 Nov 2010
Think this was the first Asian film I ever saw. I thought they'd all be like this: polite 'comedy' films of manners and getting old and very humdrum stuff like that. It's charming and well-acted and profound, but I feel these words are standing in for the very real negative emotions I have about this kind of symbolism (life is transient, food is ever-present, joy of life through daily ritual, etc).
Look: it ain't bad. And I wouldn't run out to recommend it.
