This is my Holy Grail film of the moment.
I watch it over and over again and am inspired by it.
It is a movie that transcends simple attempts to quantify it or critique in the ordinary sense.
It is both a product of its time and yet timeless.
A chronicle of the moment and of America.
It is a watershed and turning point in the history of cinema.
It is a buddy picture, a road picture, a western, a giant music video, a manifesto, a clumsy drug addled stumble, a finely polished and precisely fashioned diamond...
It serves as a kind of spirit guide to me as a filmmaker.
And as a person.
It reminds me that anything is possible in terms of creativity.
The ground is always shifting and fresh perspectives are always emerging,.
Born out of ancient desires for open roads.
And longings for something over the horizon...
Just out of reach...
