As if "Say Anything ..." and "Juno" had a baby, "Easy A" is a refreshing teen comedy that takes any cliche it has, makes it funny, and makes us smile. A reminder of nostalgic '80's teen flicks like "Sixteen Candles", "Easy A" is a simple tale of a teenager, in this case Olive (Emma Stone), who accidentally starts a rumor that she lost her virginity, which soon snowballs.

It's simple enough, but director Will Gluck, who has obviously been doing his homework, takes the premise and makes it something unique and downright funny. He takes us to a world where teenagers have razor sharp tongues and adults are super-cool, and the whip smart screenplay sure aids the film in its laughs.

It has a wicked sense of humor, and is really self-aware, but it's good that for once we have a main character (played by Emma Stone, in one of her [in this case] biggest showcases of her comedic talent) that's intelligent and likable, a villain (Amanda Bynes) that isn't some bitchy rich girl but is instead a die-hard Christian, and a good guy (Penn Badgley) that isn't a cliche but rather a witty personality.

"Easy A" is a hilarious, if ultra-smart, teen comedy that beats just about every one I've seen. It may always be stuck in the teen comedy sub-genre, but as far as comedy goes, this is one of the best of the 2010's.
