Review of Easy A (2010) by Siddharth K — 16 Sep 2012

This movie is also on my list of most re-watchable movies of all time. Modern comedy writers (I'm looking at you Mr. Sandler) should learn from this movie. The dialogue is fresh, smart, but not unrealistic because high school kids sometimes talk like this.

When I went into this movie I thought, "Okay this is all going to depend on the leading lady because no matter how good the movie is, if the lead sucks the movie sucks." This is NOT the case with Easy A, the movie introduced me to Emma Stone who is now of my favorite new actresses right now, she is extremely likable and not fake so she can pass as an every day girl which I really enjoy.

The supporting players, especially Thomas Haden Church, Lisa Kudrow, Dan Byrd, Amanda Bynes, Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson are just as great as Emma Stone and stand out in all of the right ways without overshadowing the lead.

And the speech Emma Stone makes about the 80s movies was one of my favorite monologs of 2010 because this perfectly illustrates girls look on romance, we want John Cusack to hold a boom box outside our windows, we want Judd Nelson to pump his fist in the air because he knew he won our heart, we want to ride on a lawn mower, but the reality of life is that doesn't happen except if you find the right guy.

My only gripe about the movie was I was not a fan of Aly Michalka or Penn Badgley, I felt they were easily replaceable and could've been played by someone a little more memorable. All in all this is a must watch movie and it is very fun romantic, but also realistic in the best way possible.
