Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Colin K — 18 Mar 2011
It's incredibly thrilling and has some unbearably suspenseful passages including but not limited to a naked knife-fight. There are many parts of the film that are quite difficult to watch because of their gruesome violence, but the movie is strong because of the mysteries and questions/observations of human nature that do not hold bounds with one specific culture.
It's absolutely fascinating and an incredibly strong film that still stands the test of time almost 5 years later. Even if crime is of no interest to you, human nature should be. Prepared to be bitch-slapped by David Cronenberg once again after "A History of Violence.
