Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Nate G — 12 Apr 2012
My expectations for Eastern Promises were high, even though I knew little about the plot. Cronenberg took us to a variety of different places throughout this film and all quite seamlessly, which was impressive.
I still haven't decided how I feel about the ending. I really thoroughly enjoyed the climax of this film. The acting was phenomenal from both Mortensen and Watts. The both took this one and carried it and had some pretty good chemistry.
With all of that being said, this was NOT 'A History of Violence' in the sense that Cronenberg really didn't seem to strive for something different. I would have liked to see him take some more big risks with this one and push the envelope more, other than that full-nude fight scene w/ Mortensen.
All in all though, I enjoyed this one and it kept me on the edge of my seat till the end of the climax.
