Cronenberg's continuing study of Viggo in Darwinian dualistic roles has the ambient warmth of the most sophisticated foreign mystery, set amongst the evil Russian mafia culture in its seclusive, unsuspecting London district.
The filmmaker's evolving exploration of human fear of transformation, within the enticing gangster genre, would be virtually perfect were it not in such a rush to finish, resulting in a curiously staged final few scenes.
