Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Dave M — 11 Feb 2013
Cronenberg has a style I can surely see others not appreciating, but I thought this movie was the shit. His movies are short, simple, and to the point; Eastern Promises is no different. Russian mafia story focused on the death of a pregnant fourteen year old girl.
It clocks in at a fast 1 hour 40 minutes and it sums up all you need to know with such a tight script. Sure this ain't Goodfellas, it's not trying to be. It's telling a small but DARK tale.
And if it's Cronenberg you know it's gonna have unbelievable shock value. The steam bath scene, jesus. Damn good film.
