Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Salim I — 09 Apr 2014

"Eastern Promises" is the only film I can recall that prompted a second viewing mere hours after I watched it for the first time. It is a profoundly spiritual film (a Christmas story really, beginning with a virgin birth) about love and sacrifice that left me deeply moved. It also contains one of the most jaw-dropping, horrifically tense fight sequences ever put on film, and a brilliant performance for the ages by Viggo Mortensen.

A transcendentally beautiful piece of work, and one of my absolute favorites.
