Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Carlos R — 31 Aug 2010
This is a very good film, with a dark plot and extraordinary actors. Viggo Mortensen really proved in this one that he's one of the best and he's still my personal favorite actor. The film is slow, but it's definitively not boring, the story is very interesting and its atmosphere is dark and beautiful.
I've only seen three Cronenberg films, eXistenZ, A History of Violence and this, and this is the most well done, however I liked better A History of Violence. Naomi Watts does a good job and the ending is very well executed.
A true masterpiece of the crime genre. I usually give films like these a 9/10 rating, but I rate 10/10 because the fight in the sauna (so perfect that the words remain, the best fight I've seen in any film for its realism and the editing), the nude by Viggo was the reason of the R-rating and maybe it was a little bit rescued by Cronenberg, because the economic success was little but the quality of the film is enormous.
One of the best of this decade.
