Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Brian T — 06 Mar 2011
It's a good movie. But put it this way, I'm not sure how good it would have been without Viggo Mortenson. It's an okay plot with a good twist, but it's all a bit mundane apart from that.
It's like they are trying to give it a bit of kick with surprising and frankly unnecessarily graphic shots. I don't mind such moments if they are poignant, but sometimes it is gory for gory's sake and that's never appealing.
The real positives come from Mortenson's understated acting and presence on screen. He inhabits the character and gives the film depth and mystery that simply would not be there otherwise.
