Review of East Side Sushi (2014) by David M — 20 Sep 2015
Satisfying from several viewpoints: Latina breaks cultural barrier as well as gender glass ceiling - nice moment when she declares that she wants to be in the front of the restaurant, not hidden in the back - a dig at all the restaurants that depend so heavily on the hidden Latino workers who make everone else look good in the front of the house.
Cross cultural exchange with her co-worker and main ally Aki, as she takes him on a round of Mexican food trucks and carts. Gutsy film about the struggles of real people who have to work more than one job, not Hollywood caricatures.
Great job. Came out with a smile on my face.
