Review of East of Eden (1955) by Jerome C — 07 Dec 2007
Compelling tour-de-force of emotion, but one that lacks direction. A movie I would have preferred to see unfold, rather than Kazan taking the reins as actively as he appeared to. Still a classic, just slightly less than perfect.
I also have to mention James Dean: it really is no wonder he remains an icon.
