Review of East of Eden (1955) by Steve G — 18 Jun 2011
Very nicely shot. Jimmy gives one of the most tortured performances ever filmed in this movie. I did enjoy the subtle turning of characters when the protagonist becomes the antagonist & vice versa.
Shows you really must look beneath the surface in judging someone, as the eclectic Cal (James Dean) shows himself more faithful in the end than his brother, who shows himself to be more self-serving. Break-through performance for Dean.
That said, it's not a "great" movie. Just good. I believe that Julie Harris might've been miscast, as her character is very uninteresting.
