Review of East of Eden (1955) by Fazley A — 14 Jul 2011
James Dean really burst onto the scene with this one. He truly is one of the great tragedies in film history. It's sad that in this and Rebel Without A Cause I have now seen all of his starring roles.
His range is well demonstrated here too. Cal evolves steadily and quite seamlessly from the bad boy recluse to a character who has a lot more depth to him than initially indicated. East of Eden is a thoughtful drama which builds to an emotional crescendo.
