Review of East Is East (1999) by Fiona Q — 23 Oct 2009
One of my favourite ever films. Both funny and almost heartfully touching. It is one of my favourite kind of films - both funny in a light way - but intelligent and about a more serious subject.
The Pakistani father fights within his family to reinstate his Pakistani family values, but his family have been brought up too westernised to conform to his ideals. A really good story -.
If you liked The Full Monty and Billy Elliot I think you'll love East is East. All three share something in common - a serious subject (unemployment, miner's strike and all set up north) but one that will make you smile and laugh a bit too.
