Review of Earthquake (1974) by Ian M — 02 Apr 2011
Despite a fine cast, good effects, and a thundering sound mix, there's an undeniable "TV-Movie-of-the-Week" vibe going on here. In addition, the script falls victim to the old disaster movie trope of having too many characters and too many subplots, and things get downright goofy in the third act.
That said, it's a fairly essential entry in the genre, and John Williams' score is effective (though his TOWERING INFERNO effort from the same year is far superior).
