Review of Earth to Echo (2014) by Greg B — 02 Jul 2014
"Earth to Echo" is an action-adventure science fiction movie that surrounds four regular teenagers and their discovery of an extraterrestrial in the desert of Nevada. Critics are lambasting this movie for being "too much of an E.
T. rip-off" and a "tireless plot device." True, the found alien concept is nothing new to the science fiction or movie genre period, but I felt "Echo" put an interesting twist on it.
The movie is strong in its own right, held together by a touching, affecting plot, an interesting premise, and many tearjerker, tender moments. Some of the moments with Echo are really sweet and I was on the verge of tears several times.
The plot is very humble and simple, and with serviceable acting, I felt the movie worked. The pacing was good, and there was certainly enough action to maintain audience interest in the plot. I think critics need to take a chill pill and just enjoy a movie for what it is, rather than comparing it to such blockbuster classics as "E.
T." This movie is not superior to E.T., but it is full of heart and is what I feel a wonderful, simple movie about the power of friendship and the human spirit ----------------------------------- B+.
