Review of Earth to Echo (2014) by Ryan H — 05 Jul 2014
To give you a simple idea of what this movie is like, think E.T. meets Super 8. The plot is anything but original, but it still kept me entertained the whole way through. The character selection is pretty cliché as well, you have three boys, one on the chubby side, one black (there's always JUST one), and then there's the blonde girl who they all secretly have a crush on. But I have a feeling the creators of "Echo" weren't going for originality, more like a modern take on a beloved classic. The "handycam" cinematography, while trying to be creative, just ends up being really annoying. This sort of shooting style CAN work if done well, but it wasn't. As far as child actors go, however, this cast is particularly good. Which is a huge plus, considering most kid actors are absolutely terrible, sub-par at best.
As a whole, I enjoyed "Echo." It's a good option for families looking to see something over the weekend. Just don't expect anything groundbreaking.
