Review of Earth to Echo (2014) by Kristi M — 05 Feb 2016
This is a shamelessly obvious remake of ET using updated technology and found footage style made by tweens in an I-Carly meets Blair Witch sort of way. My daughter loved it and I thought for kids fare it's pretty great compared to the other crap I have to sit through targeted at her age range.
I know it's almost sacrilegious but I prefer this over the original ET (and so did my daughter). It's getting to the point where some classics are slowly being phased out and kids won't recognize a lot of movies as being a remake and kids don't care if it's stepping on the toes of a sacred classic in the hearts of generations past.
It was fun for me to watch and the message was easy for my daughter to understand. She loved the "cute" alien and identified better with wanting to protect it vs the slightly scary and strange ET alien.
To me the whole movie seems to be built around what kids actually like to watch instead of trying to craft something that critics won't dissect.
