Review of Earth to Echo (2014) by Colm K — 31 Aug 2014
You told her I had polio.
A group of kids about to be forced to relocate due to a real-estate tycoon buying up all of the local property want to spend their last days together. They head into the desert one night on their bikes and discover a strange alien technology. The alien technology needs help returning home. This may be the perfect last adventure for our friends.
"Did you not all just see the giant spaceship?".
Dave Green delivers Earth to Echo is his major motion picture debut. The storyline for this picture is okay and kind of a mix between Super 8 and Stand by Me (except not as good as either film). The action was scarce and the special effects were just okay, but the characters and dialogue were solid in a Gooneys kind of way. The cast includes Teo Halm, Astro, Reese Hartwig, Ella Wahlestedt, and Jason Gray-Stanford.
"Told you guys you wanted to go!".
We watched this at the drive-in last weekend (it was the first movie) and I can say it was interesting and worth watching. This isn't an all time classic kid's flick, but it does tell a nice coming of age story. Overall, I would recommend watching this with your kids once when it comes on cable but I wouldn't go to the movies to see this or add it to my DVD collection.
"We did that!".
Grade: C+.
