Review of Eagle vs Shark (2007) by Steven B — 13 Dec 2008
This is a wonderful Indie film with some unforgettable characters. I was really impressed with Loren Horsley as Lily. She plays this socially awkward and shy young woman who sees the world through rose colored glasses (sort of like Amelie).
She gets together with crush Jarrod, who was impressed by her video gaming skills. She is still way more into him than he is her, and at a trip to his family's house he becomes obsessed with training for a fight with an old school bully of his.
There we meet Jarrod's family and slowly learn their history (like in the movie Junebug), which helps understand why Jarrod is so self-absorbed and competitive. The conclusion is very satisfying and I would recommend this to anyone who likes quirky characters in indie love stories.
Some stop motion animation and fantasy sequences were interesting touches from the director that set this one apart. Nice songs in the soundtrack from little known alternative rock and folk bands.
