Review of Eagle vs Shark (2007) by Jamie I — 07 Nov 2010

This came recommended to me by a costumed couple at a Halloween party. They were dressed as Eagle and Shark. I think if Wes Anderson was a Kiwi and made movies in New Zealand then this is the movie he would have made.

Aside from the odd symbolic animations this film has a definite Anderson feel to it and since he's one of my favorite filmmakers that's definitely a compliment. This movie is about Lily who gives new meaning to the word pushover and Jarrod who gives new meaning to the term asshole.

Lily dreams of dating Jarrod and before she is fired from her job she's to deliver an animal party invitation to her co-worker from Jarrod. The co-worker decides not to go to the party and Lily dressed as a shark goes in her place.

After Lily shows her skill at the fighting game competition Jarrod falls for her and consumed with revenge takes her to his hometown to train for his ultimate fight with the school bully. Along the way there are ups and down for Lily but mostly downs.

I'm not going to lie this movie can be a downer but the colorful one-liners redeem it throughout. Recommended.
