Review of Eagle Eye (2008) by Ethan A — 27 Jun 2011
Some thrillers are awesome, some suck, and some...are kinda in the middle, and that's where Eagle Eye fits in.
Shia "Over-used-over-rated" LaBeouf plays a guy who is wrongly accused of being a terrorist, and is chased around the United States by a HAL 9000 rip-off. First off, the plot is total horseshit. This would never happen, and since it is played off as a "possibility" (kinda like Salt), it loses it's enjoyment factor rather quickly. Shockingly, LeBeouf isn't horrible in this, but he still can't act with the big boys. Michelle Monaghan is actually rather good as his partner in crime, so to speak. I liked Michael Chiklis too.
I don't get how Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest and most prolific directors of our generation, picks rather lackluster movies to produce (look at Transformers...particularly the second one...SUCK!), it is kind of disappointing. I did find the plot interesting, however...not believeable...AT...ALLLLL.
All in all, it is a decent-ish spy thriller that even with pretty good acting and a smart story, it's way to predicable and contrived to be fully entertaining. See it only if you must.
