I can see why film critics don't like it, but they're not the audience it was made for. If you're a fan of urban fantasy on the page or on the small screen then you'll love this. Think Kate Daniels + Harry Dresden with the production values of a good episode of Supernatural.
Take it as a stand-alone though as it strays majorly from source.
