Review of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2011) by Barree V — 06 May 2011
Yikes. I really wanted to like this movie. I love detective movies and supernatural stories, so this seemed like a slam dunk. I've never read the comic series, so I was going in with zero expectation. The only expectation I had that it be somewhat Sam Spade mixed with Supernatural with enough action to keep me wowed. But really it was a missed opportunity. And poor Brandon Routh. Dude never gets his due. He was a great Superman/Clark Kent in a seriously lacking Superman movie and now he's in a bounce back movie that basically put him back on his ass.
The pacing was terrible. The plot was stupid. The writing was blah. It had it's funny moments but for the most part I wanted to punch Sam Huntington in the face every time he opened his mouth and he was actually one of the only highlights of the whole thing. Even the usually awesome Peter Stomare looked like he was phoning this one in. The coolest thing about the movie was that I didn't know Kurt Angle was in the movie. I was like, "Hey, Kurt Angle. Cool.".
So bottom line: You can feel bad for Brandon Routh but you can pass on this flick completely, do not rent, do not wait for it on cable. Do not even watch it wasted.
