Review of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2011) by Shayne W — 10 Jun 2011
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night was clearly a labor of love, a cult film from the get-go. Based off the eponymous Italian comic book âDylan Dog,â? Routh stars as the title character. A paranormal private investigator, Dylan is a specialist in all things supernatural.
Relied upon to provide the traditional narration of a detectiveâ(TM)s story, Routh has a sort of self-effacing humor that gives the film a light-hearted sense of humor that lightens the mood up. Without it this is just pure camp; he carries the film effortlessly.
While it has its charms -- due mostly to the chemistry between Routh and Huntington, it kind of works here given the movie's Film Noir private eye narration and vibe. Of all the cast members, Huntington is the scene-stealing standout even if his performance is at the same histrionic pitch throughout the film.
I actually quite enjoy this movie.
