Review of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2011) by Clay B — 30 Aug 2011
I'm a sucker for movies with werewolves and hardcore vampires (not the phaggoty, glittering ones in a movies series whose name I shall not mention). I also deep down want to enjoy Brandon Routh as an actor, but to be honest I'm having a really hard time.
"Dylon Dog" didn't help me at all. With the bad creature effects, and even worse dialogue, I kept wondering why this film was even green-lit. To be fair, SOME of the dialogue WAS funny, especially when delivered by San Huntington.
Those parts WERE enjoyable. Maybe they should have made the entire film MORE of a dark comedy? I think that would have worked way better. Taye Diggs as bad-guy vampire "Vargas" gave it his all and was thoroughly engaging, while Peter Stormare ("Gabriel') and former WWE star Kurt Angle ("Wolfgang") brought some interesting je-ne-sais qoi to balance out the oddly lifeless leading man Brandon Routh ("Dylan Dog").
There was a twist in the story, centering around Anita Briem ("Elizabeth") but really, by then I didn't care. The overall bad writing and directing makes "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" not even worth a rental.
I suffered, so that YOU didn't have to.
