I'm not sure what this film was aiming for -- it threw out so many elements it was hard to figure exactly where it was going. starting with the history of tasmania and it's penal settlement in 1824, moving on to an irish zoologist trying to find a wild tiger meanwhile being haunted by her sister's mysterious drowning.

suddenly you're smack dab in the beginning of a little expedition/vacation where the zoologist enlists an australian couple and her partner/boyfriend/whatever he is for some roughing it in with the locals in the middle of a small town nightmare.

this is when they trek off into the isolated and rugged landscape of tasmania, sleeping in a cave and being followed around by a little girl. slices of the past are merged into the story -- focusing on the sister of the zoologist and an escaped cannibal prisoner.

I gather the main focus was supposed to be the creepy locals and their tradition... the tiger was some excuse to drag them into the mess, where the familiar set up of crazy clique inbred townsfolk hide a dirty little secret and torment outsiders.

despite the maelstrom of themes, this film wasn't that bad. it's scenery was gorgeous and peaked your visual interest, the story spit out disgusting and odd little tidbits to keep you entertained, and although the film could've been sorted out easier for consumption, I give it a decent rating.

perhaps the sordid story was what kept it interesting.
