Review of Dutch (1991) by Rocknblues 8 — 24 Jun 2006
Comedy-adventure movie about middle class working Dutch Dooley (Ed O'Neill) who sets out to pick up his girlfriend's stuck up son Doyle from a private school several miles away, who is rather upset because his mother divorced his father and ao he holds bitter feelings for her. Dutch quickly discovers that he's in for a tough ride when Doyle resists him and refuses to go home and see his mother.
Doyle not pleased by Dooley showing up at the school, he decides to attack him with different weapons that includes a gun, a golf club, and other items in an attempt to run Dutch off. When that fails, the two set out a long journey with lots of bickering and wisecracks that's sure to get a few laughs out of you.

As you can see above, the plot isn't really thick, and this movie contains no real plot twists or turns... That pretty much means this movie counts on the jokes to carry it through. I think it does a solid job of keeping the viewer entertained for an hour and half.
I wouldn't say it's a movie you should rush out to buy, or even rent... But if it comes on cable tv in the evening, I'd suggest watching it. It most likely will give some laughs here and there. The thing that makes it watchable though is that the jokes never really stop when Dutch and Doyle meet.
6/10.
