Review of Duplicity (2009) by Ken C — 27 Jun 2012
As much as I love Clive Owen and some of the more interesting scenes found in this movie, I was more bored than entertained and after a while I just wanted it to end. I was so uninterested in what was happening (with the exception of a few scenes) that I honestly more than anything wanted to turn it off before the plot even started to kick in.
The performances were good, Clive is just as fantastic here as he'll ever be in any movie he's in, even if he doesn't seem quite as committed to his role as he does in his other stuff, like Closer for example. Julia Roberts is somewhat of an unlikeable bitch and i'm not sure it that was intended or not. But either way I cared more about Clive than I did her, and could care less about what happened to her. Paul Giamatti is certainly very entertaining to watch and is definitely one of the movie's saving graces that kept it from being insufferable to watch.
There really isn't much else to this movie aside from the actors. It's just a boring, generic caper romance/comedy with only a few entertaining scenes. It's the kind of movie that you see on FX when your flipping threw channels one day and go, "Oh yeah, I've heard about this.".
There's absolutely no way that I can recommend this movie, even if your a fan of the actors. It's just such a coaster, and really has no business existing.
Watch Closer instead.
