Review of Duplicity (2009) by David M — 26 Jan 2010
A bit surprised by the relatively low rating this film got on Flixster. I thought it was quite good - a clever, intricate plot with very, very solid performances all around. Admittedly, the back and forth between flashbacks and present day didn't make it easy to track, but certainly well worth the effort.
The dynamic between Roberts and Owen was well developed and well played by both. The punchline? Meh, not as good as I had expected, but a nice finish nonetheless - more poignant, I think, than awesome (a la The Usual Suspects).
Overall, a strong second film from Gilroy (though, IMHO, not quite at the same level as Michael Clayton) that makes me look forward to his next effort.
