Review of Duplicity (2009) by Allison J — 12 Feb 2010
I don't like Julia Roberts and I don't like Clive Owen, but I do like Paul Giamatti. This movie tried to be too cool, too debonair, too charming, too clever, too were-gonna-triple-cross-the-double-cross.
It tried to be to many things and the one thing it was, was stupid and pretentious. If it wasn't for Paul Giamatti who is awesome, and a few funny scenes here and there this woulda been a complete loss.
I don't buy Julia Roberts as a spy deep in the makings of intricate espionage, and not even in polotics or the gov't its by some dumb company that makes all kinds of dumb stuff. They try to make you care about these people and this story and I really didn't, and they try to be cute and tie in flashbacks and the present which also didn't work for me.
The ending finally comes after a dragging of the same bullshit, u think u know whats goin on then u dont and then u still dont care. When the end comes I coulda cared less, and it made the whole movie not even worth watching.
It was like a romcom hiding behind a spy film so a....rombond???????
