Review of Duplicity (2009) by Augustine H — 20 Sep 2011
There's quite a bit to like about this - a great upbeat score, fun performances from Clive Owen, Julia Roberts, Paul Giamatti and Tim Wilkinson (among others), some occasionally slick dialogue. I also liked the disjointed way the back-stories were revealed...
...but I found it really hard to care. Noone's very likeable. The 'stakes' in play are just corporate bosses who hate each other trying to steal shampoo secrets. REALLY?!? Rich liars trying steal money from other rich liars. Woohoo.
It's enjoyable and very slick, but goes on too long and is a massive triumph of style over content. Is it a cream or is it a lotion? Who cares....
